Dubai Airport Flood

Dubai Airport Cancels Flights, Diverts Others Due to Severe Rainfall

Record-breaking rainfall in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has led to a number of flight disruptions at Dubai International Airport.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms have caused visibility issues and hazardous conditions for aircraft operations, resulting in the cancellation of 19 flights and the diversion of several others.

According to the UAE's official news agency, WAM, the heavy rainfall has affected visibility on runways and caused waterlogging in some areas of the airport, making it unsafe for takeoffs and landings. A statement from Dubai Airports, the operator of Dubai International Airport, said that the safety of passengers and crew is its top priority, and the airport is working closely with airlines to minimize disruptions and assist affected travelers.

As of this morning, 13 inbound flights have been diverted to other airports in the UAE, including Sharjah International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport. The diverted flights include services from major carriers such as Emirates, Flydubai, and Qatar Airways.

Passengers who are scheduled to fly from or arrive at Dubai International Airport are advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight status information and to allow for additional time at the airport. The airport is urging travelers to stay updated on weather conditions and to follow the instructions of airport staff regarding flight delays or cancellations.

The heavy rainfall in Dubai and the UAE is part of a weather system that has been affecting the region for several days. The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued warnings of more rain and thunderstorms in the coming days, and residents have been advised to take precautions and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm.
