Governor Gretchen Whitmer Acquitted in Kidnapping Plot

Two men cleared of charges, jury deadlocked on two others

Details of the Trial and the Defendants

A US federal jury has acquitted two men accused of plotting to kidnap Michigan's governor, Gretchen Whitmer. The jury failed to reach a verdict for two other defendants.

The four men were accused of conspiring to kidnap Whitmer from her vacation home in northern Michigan in 2020. Prosecutors alleged that the men were motivated by anger over Whitmer's COVID-19 restrictions. The defense argued that the men were entrapped by undercover FBI agents.

The jury acquitted Adam Fox and Daniel Harris of all charges. The jury was deadlocked on charges against Barry Croft and Brandon Caserta, and a mistrial was declared for those two defendants.
