National Weather Service In Raleigh Issues Warning Until 345 Am

Cumberland, Hoke, Sampson counties under flash flood warning

National Weather Service in Raleigh issues warning until 3:45 a.m.

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a flash flood warning for Cumberland, Hoke, and Sampson counties in eastern North Carolina. The warning was issued at 9:48 p.m. and is in effect until 3:45 a.m. Wednesday.

The warning area includes the eastern part of Cumberland County and the northwestern part of Sampson County.

A flash flood warning means that flooding is imminent or already occurring. If you are in the warned area, you should move to higher ground immediately.

Heavy rain has been falling in the area for several hours, and the ground is saturated. The additional rain could cause flooding in low-lying areas and near creeks and rivers.

The National Weather Service advises residents to be prepared for flooding and to take the following precautions:

  • Do not drive through flooded areas. Even a few inches of water can cause your car to stall.
  • If you see a flooded roadway, turn around and find another route.
  • Be aware of the potential for flooding in your area and be prepared to evacuate if necessary.

The National Weather Service will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as needed.

Amid heavy rain and a flash flood warning for Wake County on Tuesday evening, tornado warnings were also issued for several counties in central North Carolina.
